Three years ago, I stumbled upon the Women’s Euro 2022 in England while flipping through channels, and I caught the soccer fever. And the success story continues: At the current Euro in Switzerland, more tickets have been sold than ever before!

At the UEFA Women’s European Championship, more tickets have been sold than ever before: According to UEFA, around 623,088 spectators have attended the matches in Switzerland so far — surpassing the 2022 tournament in England, which had a total of 461,582 attendees. Source: YAHOO SPORTS

Italy extends parental leave to include lesbian mothers

The Constitutional Court in Italy has ruled that non-biological mothers in same-sex partnerships are entitled to parental leave. Specifically, this applies to the ten days of fully paid parental leave that, until now, were only granted to fathers. The court declared this unequal treatment unconstitutional. ICJ strengthens climate protection: States can be held accountable

The International Court of Justice in The Hague has ruled that states have a duty to actively combat the climate crisis. According to the advisory opinion, insufficient climate action can violate international law — potentially leading to legal consequences such as compensation payments. Just 7,000 steps a day can lower health risks

You don’t need to reach 10,000 steps a day to see positive effects: According to a review study, the risk of chronic diseases already drops at 7,000 steps — with initial benefits starting at just 4,000. The British Journal of Sports Medicine also recently reported that from 7,000 steps onward, cancer risk decreases, especially among people aged 56 to 68. Source: THE GUARDIAN

Secret of vortex rings uncovered

Jellyfish, octopuses, and dolphins use vortex rings to move or play. Researchers have now discovered that when rising at an angle, vortex rings bounce off the water’s surface—but when hitting it vertically, they break apart. Stadium visits as a therapeutic approach

In the English county of Gloucestershire, doctors can now prescribe stadium visits as a treatment for mild depression. The new pilot project is based on the principle of “social prescribing” and aims to help people break out of isolation.
