في عام 1974، نُشرت قصة ”حضور الرجل الغائب“ للكاتبة العراقية علياء ممدوح لأول مرة في المجلة اللبنانية ’الطريق‘، ثم لاحقًا عام 1977 في المجموعة القصصية ”هوامش السيدة ب“. وهي تُعتبر أول قصة قصيرة عربية تتناول صراحة الرغبة الجنسية بين النساء بطريقة لا تُنسى من الجرأة والحسيّة. تكشف ممدوح عن الحياة الداخلية لامرأة عراقية تتحول حياتها اليومية وجسدها وخيالها إلى رغبة نابضة وخطيرة.
بين السوق والحمّام ونظرات غريبة، تتحول القصة إلى نص عميق عن الوحدة والشوق والتمرد – وعن السؤال: كيف تجدين طريقك عندما لا يكون هناك مكان لحقيقتك الخاصة؟

It is considered the first Arabic short story to openly address female desire between women – courageous, sensual, unforgettable.
