I often pass playgrounds with a sense of nostalgia and think, “How wonderful it would be to be a child again and just play.” But play is about much more than fun: it builds courage and supports both physical and mental health. In Wales and Los Angeles, there are even playgrounds for everyone—young and old, and for people with disabilities.

The ozone hole over the Arctic was smaller in 2024 than in the years 2020 to 2023 – and even below the average level of 1990 to 2020, according to the World Meteorological Organization. Global agreement against unregulated fishing

Seaweed in portuguese marine ecosystems identified as major carbon sink
Researchers in Portugal have, for the first time, measured carbon storage by algae in underwater ecosystems. On 5,189 hectares, the plants capture around 16.48 gigagrams of carbon—equivalent to over 5,000 soccer fields. AI-powered airbags aim to make airplane crashes safer
An engineering team has developed an AI-powered survival system for airplane crashes. It uses inflatable airbags around the aircraft to cushion the impact in unavoidable crashes. Researchers are developing a vaccine to prevent heart attacks
