Financing a professional recording has become very difficult due to the low income from music streaming. Many people value my recorded music, but what they pay to the streaming platforms doesn’t reach independent artists like me.
Because of the payout model used by Spotify and other platforms, my music needs to be streamed around 30,000 times for me to earn just €100. Most of your subscription fees flow to mainstream artists. Meanwhile, the revenue of the recorded-music market has more than doubled since 2014!
I do sell CDs, vinyl, and downloads, but it is not enough to finance a recording session and the release of an album.
The costs for producing an album are usually around €20,000.
