Maybe. Maybe not.

Maybe is a great word.

It can mean “yes” or “no”, or “I don’t know”. You can use it to sound critical, supportive, evasive or unsure.

Maybe is also a great “thinking tool”. Maybe disrupts certainty.

  • Certainty about why that person on the phone sounds impatient.

  • Certainty about your colleague’s mood.

  • Certainty about what other people think about your English.
