How (not) to swear

First things first: It is never wrong not to swear.

When we are little, we learn that swearwords are “bad”. We discover that swearwords provoke strong reactions in people. We develop a sense of words that are acceptable and words that make people uncomfortable. We learn that swearwords can be funny, and that they can create bonds with other people. We might swear when we hurt ourselves.

But what about swearing in another language? Can you learn that? And: Should you?

No matter whether your English is potty-mouthed or prim and proper: this episode is for you.
