A meta-study published in the British Medical Journal shows that even short “movement snacks” can noticeably improve fitness. People who climb stairs, do squats, or practice Tai Chi for five minutes several times a day can significantly strengthen their heart and circulatory system—especially those who are usually inactive. Using ultrasound waves to fight cancer

By chance, researcher Zhen Xu developed a new form of cancer therapy: the histotripsy method destroys tumors using ultrasound waves—without surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. Since October 2023, it has been approved in the U.S. for treating liver tumors. Now, long-term studies and further research are needed. Source: BBC

South American lawmakers push for energy transition in the Amazon

A network of over 900 lawmakers from Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia presented a report in the Brazilian National Congress calling for a phase-out of fossil fuels in the Amazon. Initial legislative proposals aim to halt further fossil fuel development in the region. Source: MONGABAY

After more than a century: Pine martens return to Southwest England

After more than 100 years, pine martens are returning to southwest England. Nine females and ten males from healthy wild populations have been released in protected areas and are being monitored by the National Trust and Forestry England.
