The EU approves “My Voice, My Choice.”

The European Parliament approved a fund to help women from countries with strict abortion laws travel and access medical care in other EU states. The move follows the citizen initiative “My Voice, My Choice”, which collected over a million signatures. Source: REUTERS

The UK rejoins the Erasmus program

Good news for students and trainees: Starting in 2027, the UK will rejoin the Erasmus program. The EU and the UK have agreed on the financial terms. The country had left the EU exchange program in 2021. Source: BBC

Spain introduces a nationwide public transport ticket

Spain plans to introduce a nationwide monthly pass for buses and trains. The “Spain Ticket” will be available from mid-January, costing 60 euros per month, with a reduced rate of 30 euros for under-26s. Study discovers hundreds of new fungal species in California

A government-funded study in California has identified hundreds of previously unknown fungal species. The project is part of a statewide initiative to protect biodiversity. How mobile ultrasound devices help mothers in Kenya

The WHO recommends that all pregnant women receive at least one ultrasound before the sixth month. However, in sub-Saharan Africa, only about half of women have access to this care. In Kenya, portable ultrasound devices are showing how risks can be detected early. Supported by artificial intelligence, they also help compensate for the shortage of trained midwives on site. Community at Christmas: Café opens its doors to everyone

The Rocking Horse in Alnwick is opening on December 25th to welcome people spending the holidays alone. Owner Andrew Byne will serve free hot drinks and mince pies, marking the fifth consecutive Christmas for the initiative.
