Patinage Magazine : Quel bilan fais-tu de ton début de saison ?
Kevin Aymoz : Très content ! Cinq compétitions, quatre victoires, je ne vais pas me plaindre ! Par contre j’ai été hyper déçu de ne pas me qualifier pour la Finale. J’ai eu de gros soucis au Skate Canada suite à ma blessure, je n’ai pu reprendre l’entraînement que deux semaines avant la compétition, et gagner le Skate America ne suffisait pas. Mais à part ça, je suis globalement satisfait de ma saison jusque là.
P.M. : Tu as abandonné la partie “Judas” de ton programme court. Pour quelle raison ?
K.A. : Je n’ai conservé que la partie piano de Jean-Michel Blais, c’est ce qui était prévu au départ, je reprendrai Lady Gaga pour les championnats du Monde, car c’est pour moi un moyen de m’amuser. Mais là je crois que j’ai besoin de montrer mon “vrai” [il dessine des guillemets aves ses doigts] patinage et ce que je sais faire, plutôt que de la pop dance qui glisse moins, tu vois ce que je veux dire ? Je préfère présenter un programme plein d’émotion plutôt que de mélanger les deux pour l’instant. Je pense que c’est un de mes programmes préférés de tous les temps. Les transitions s’enchaînent super bien, ce n’est pas facile mais c’est fluide, ça me convient tout à fait.
P.M. : Pas de changement dans tes conditions d’entraînement ?
K.A. : Non, toujours à Grenoble la plupart du temps. Mais j’ai passé un mois sur le continent nord-américain cet automne en prévision de mes Grand Prix, ce qui m’a permis de retravailler de visu avec Silvia [Fontana] et d’apporter quelques modifications à mes programmes. Je suis entouré par une super équipe avec Françoise [Bonnard] à Grenoble, pour moi c’est très important !

Patinage Magazine: What is your take on the start of your season?
Kevin Aymoz: Very happy! Five competitions, four wins, I can’t complain! On the other hand, I was really disappointed not to qualify for the Final. I had major issues at Skate Canada following my injury, I was only able to resume training two weeks before the competition, and winning Skate America wasn’t enough. But apart from that, I’m generally satisfied with my season so far.
P.M..: You dropped the 'Judas' part of your short program. Why?
K.A.: I only kept the piano part by Jean-Michel Blais, which was the original plan. I’ll do Lady Gaga again for the World Championships, because for me it’s a way to have fun. But right now I think I need to show my 'real' [he makes quotes with his fingers] skating and what I can do, rather than pop dance that glides less, you know what I mean? I prefer to present a program full of emotion rather than mix the two for now. I think it's one of my favorite programs of all time. The transitions flow really well, it's not easy but it's smooth, which suits me perfectly.
P.M.: No changes in your training conditions?
K.A.: No, still in Grenoble most of the time. But I spent a month in North America this fall in preparation for my Grand Prix, which allowed me to work in person again with Silvia [Fontana] and make some adjustments to my programs. I'm surrounded by an amazing team with Françoise [Bonnard] in Grenoble, which is very important to me!
