STB Newsletter 2025 #6

Dear all,

A final email of the year from us just to say a big THANK YOU for your support, whether new or ongoing, and to update you on recent articles and essays in case you missed them.

Since the last mail-out, we have published a piece by Mark Hobbs on singular Weimar artist Gustav Wunderwald (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) and his locally-focused paintings of the city’s more industrial areas.

In November, the redoubtable Stephen Dalton interviewed Bowie’s former musical director and guitarist Carlos Alomar (Öffnet in neuem Fenster) about the heady years he spent in Berlin working on the Thin White Duke’s famous Berlin Trilogy.

And, last but not least, we ran a recent essay by James J. Conway on the famous Berlin sexologist Magnus Hirschfeld (Öffnet in neuem Fenster), who opened the first trans clinic in Berlin over a hundred years ago, and whose work was groundbreaking in many other ways.

We have plenty more lined up for 2026, including deep dives into the work of the great Käthe Kollwitz and city photographer Willy Römer, and maybe even a Slow Guide to Paris based on the last few years of regular drifts and discoveries; it’s only an eight hour train ride from Berlin after all, as are so many other great destinations (Öffnet in neuem Fenster).
