Koffein ist die weltweit am häufigsten verwendete legale psychoaktiv wirkende Droge. Es handelt sich dabei um ein Alkaloid, das 1819 zum ersten Mal durch den Chemiker Friedlieb Ferdinand Runge aus dem Kaffee isoliert wurde.
