Caught in the Space-Rain: Full Play-Report

“Understood, Agent Starman. I believe the butler is our culprit.”

From listening to Scandroid’s concept albums to watching the new Murderbot TV show, I’ve lately been inspired to explore well-meaning sentient androids in mysterious, unfamiliar environments. Caught in the Rain, released last week, is a perfect vehicle to explore exactly that!

These gorgeous cards come from the Galaxia Altezza deck, by Thirdway Industries.

Earlier this year Ravensridge published a redacted version of the rules as a free playtest, in which I played a demon stuck on Earth trying to get home. It had tie-ins to Pathfinder and Vampire: the Masquerade campaigns that I run, so I had a lot of background setting material to go with. The demon came from a fantasy world and didn’t understand cars (carriages with fire elementals?), cell phones (wands of sending?), or corporate employee handbooks (was this soul-crushing legalese designed by heaven or by hell??). Still, she needed to figure out how to get home. And, let me tell you, it was awful! (I mean, awful for her — the game was great :)

Now that the complete game is out, including oracle tables, rules refinements, and advice on making compelling Truths and solving the final Mystery, I sat down to solve a second, entirely-different mystery from start to finish, documenting my game along the way.

So, without further ado, let’s set up our play area, shuffle our decks, design our mystery, and activate Synthia 62C.
