Welcome to Trask

If the mud hasn’t filled your lungs quite yet, you might just make it. As you emerge out of the muck, drawing a much-needed breath, what strikes you first? Will it be the riotous songs of crickets and frogs intertwined? Perhaps the fireflies in swirls among the trees ahead? Or is the first thing that hits you the stench of rot, of stagnation, of swamp?

Hello, traveler. This here page will be my home base as I think out loud about a ttrpg setting I need to get out of my head and into the ether of the world wide web. The working name of this setting is Trask, and in short, it’s a strange, dark, swamp filled with creatures both kind and questionable and weird.

Banner featuring a silhouette of a small island and its reflection in water. Three stylized pine trees and a small humanoid figure populate the island. The tone is melancholy.

Who am I and why am I doing this?

My name is Anders and I love worldbuilding. I’m a Swede in Amsterdam, a self-employed graphic designer and art director, an illustrator, a gay man, and someone who has always been a fan of the act of making shit up. I think it makes sense that I ended up working in visual identities and communication, and given my love for fantasy stories, it makes even more sense that I found my way to table-top role playing games.

I’m starting this as a hobby project because I want to learn more about building setting. I play and run D&D, and I enjoy my fair share of video games, and I am always drawn to the systems and ✨vibes✨ that create that sense of “I’m in a world”.

What to expect

I have very little already planned for this setting, so let’s see where the adventure takes us. The plan is to draw from sources on worldbuilding, cool ttrpg settings, and worlds from other fields that might inspire. I would LOVE to hear from you if you, like me, love the art of worldbuilding. Share your worlds and your favorite tools of the trade! Here or at anders@studiootherwise.com (Öffnet in neuem Fenster).

I’m thinking about how to make the parts published could be playable immediately, but perhaps that’s too much. We shall see.

I’m learning Steady as I go, so let me know if anything looks or feels clunky.

Until next time, mind your step, and watch out for the gondoliers.

— Anders
