How can one continue being an artist in this economy? Funding for most creative projects has been cut—especially for those addressing racism, queerness, and disability.
It is particularly hard to be a multiply marginalized artist and it is especially hard when you are already struggling every day with chronic illness and disability.
Every day I do my best, and still it doesn’t feel like enough just to be okay. I want to move from barely surviving and struggling to pay rent toward a life with more room to breathe and create. Times are hard, and yet I don’t want to let go of my dream of making art and following my heart in pursuing ideas and projects that truly matter to me.
