It’s Pride Month! And this month is more important than ever, because queer rights are under pressure worldwide. But so much has already been achieved! I did some research in our newsroom archives—and found exactly what I was looking for: laws, initiatives, and spaces where queer life is protected and can be visibly celebrated.

Hungarian authorities permit this year's Pride March in Budapest

Following the change of government in Hungary, the police have officially approved Budapest Pride for June 27th. The organizers welcomed the decision, stating that the authorities are acting in accordance with a corresponding EU ruling. Source: TPV WORLD

Qween Jean wins Tony Award

For her work on the Broadway musical "Cats: The Jellicle Ball," costume designer Qween Jean has won a Tony Award. She has made history with this achievement, becoming the first openly trans person to do so. The award creates greater visibility for queer individuals. Source: THE NEW YORK TIMES

Warsaw recognizes same-sex marriage for the first time

For the first time, Warsaw’s city hall has officially recognized the marriage of a same-sex couple. This was made possible by a court ruling that obligates Poland to recognize marriages legally performed in other EU countries. Historical milestone: Amsterdam celebrates 25 years of marriage equality

25th Anniversary: In 2001, the Netherlands became the first country to introduce marriage for same-sex couples. A milestone for the queer community.
