Wow — the last full week with Good News is here! At the end of the week, we’re taking a short holiday break and will be back in January. But until then, there are still plenty of good stories: I have the feeling that many people are pulling out all the stops at the end of the year to do something good.

A decade after the Paris Agreement, economic growth and CO₂ emissions are increasingly decoupling. Countries are drastically reducing their emissions while GDP continues to rise. An analysis by the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), covering data from 113 countries that account for over 97% of global GDP, shows that this decoupling is becoming more and more the norm. UK allows aame-sex ice dance couples
Starting in the 2026/27 season, the British Figure Skating Association will allow same-sex ice dance couples to compete in all national competitions. In Canada, this has already been the case since 2023. The move aims to make the sport more inclusive. On the international level, however, same-sex pairs are still not allowed to compete. Norway: No deep-sea mining licenses until 2029
Norway will not issue any deep-sea mining licenses until 2029. The government is responding to pressure from smaller parties and environmental groups. Researchers and NGOs have long warned of the risks to fragile ecosystems and welcome the decision. Source: EURONEWS

A hospital for sea turtles
In the Florida Keys, there is a hospital dedicated specifically to sea turtles. During the winter months, the endangered animals are cared for there to protect them from hypothermia. When temperatures rise again, they can return safely to the ocean. Source: WWSB
