To live in a city is to be entangled in a web of parasocial patterns, a network of anonymous fondness for the regulars in your life’s cafe – streets which intrigue you but that you’ve never walked down, or neighbours who you’ve never spoken to but whose Monday night jam sessions have become a part of your week too. Strange, slight but vital, these everyday urban fascinations appear often as unopened doors along the corridor of routine – they could be more if we followed our curiosity, spoke to that neighbour and got invited to the party, but (busy) we don’t.
