Adam Siao Him Fa: “You have to push both the technical and artistic aspects”

We met Adam Siao Him Fa at his first summer training camp, the Peak Ice Camp, in Courmayeur, Italy, in mid-June. The two-time European Champion shared his plans and vision for the upcoming season and Olympic cycle.

You were on vacation in Mauritius—how are you feeling now that summer training has started?

Adam: The vacation did me a world of good—it was great to really get away for a break. Usually, after the season ends, I’ve done shows or visited my family. This time, for the first time in a long while, I actually went on a proper, extended vacation. Since I’d decided to take a real vacation this year, I wanted to go far away, so I traveled to the island of Mauritius with Kimmy [Repond]. My parents are from Mauritius, and that’s where my roots are. I hadn’t been there in 14 years. I wanted to go back, and it’s been really good for me. We were there for two weeks. I still have family there—my grandpa and lots of uncles, aunts, and cousins; a lot of my family lives there.

How did you experience this long and stressful Olympic season?

Adam: Very exhausting, very tiring—both physically and emotionally. It was an emotional roller coaster the whole time. There were good moments, not-so-good moments, moments that didn’t go as planned, but in the end, there were still a lot of positives. Despite everything, now that I have some perspective, I can say that I’m lucky to be living the life I have now—taking part in competitions and achieving the results I’ve had. I know I could have done better, but I’m still very satisfied. My injuries have almost healed. Unfortunately, I got injured two weeks after the World Championships. I’ve finally been back on the ice since last week [beginning of June]. I took a four-week break. In three weeks, I’ll be able to start practicing jumps again.
