Drawn that way

Do you know the film “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”? In this film, cartoon characters – the “Toons” – co-exist with real-life human characters. And one of the Toons, the beautiful, curvaceous, glamorous Jessica Rabbit says the memorable line: “I’m not bad. I’m just drawn that way.” 

I often think about this line when people complain about Generative AI.

Like Jessica Rabbit, Generative AI is not “bad”. It is not trying to make us lose our creativity or jump to easy answers for questions that needed a bit of human grappling. It does what we tell it to do. It was “drawn that way”.

But what if this leads us to be less present, less courageous, and less connected with other people?
