Newsletter 7 (07/2026)

Oha! In den letzten Wochen sind einige neue Leser*innen dazugekommen, deswegen hiermit nochmal ein herzliches Willkommen, und es freut mich sehr, dass du dabei bist!

Ich hab das mal als Anlass genutzt, um den Newsletter weiterzuentwickeln. Er ist auf Steady umgezogen, wo ich auch ein Archiv mit allen bisher verschickten Ausgaben angelegt hab. Wie immer: Für Anregungen oder Kritik, oder wenn du einfach so in meine Inbox schlittern willst, gerne auf diese Mail antworten. :)

It’s moved to Steady, where I’ve also set up an archive with all issues sent so far. Steidl → 어

Die schönste Sache zuerst: Ich hab geheiratet, haha. Seit Anfang Juli sind Dayeon Auh (Si apre in una nuova finestra) und ich offiziell ein Ehepaar, und wenn dieser Fakt irgendwann durch die deutsche Bürokratie gesickert ist, werde ich nicht mehr Fabian Steidl sondern Fabian Auh heißen. 🙂 Passend dazu haben wir natürlich unsere Online-Shops schon zum Auh’s Shop (Si apre in una nuova finestra) zusammengelegt.

Die Aussprache von „Auh“ lässt sich gar nicht so einfach erklären. „Auh“ ist eine Romanisierung des koreanischen Vokals 어, den wir im Deutschen nicht haben. Ungefähr wie beim „o“ in „offen“. Ein bisschen besser vergleichbar wäre das „Au“ im englischen Wort „August“. Hier mal ein Link mit Audiobeispiel (Si apre in una nuova finestra), haha. Im Moment ist der Namenswechsel aber noch nicht umgesetzt und es wird bestimmt noch ein paar Monate oder Jahre dauern, bis das überall aktualisiert ist.

EN — Steidl → 어 — The biggest thing first: I got married, haha. As of early July, Dayeon Auh (Si apre in una nuova finestra) and I are officially a married couple, and once that fact has trickled through German bureaucracy, I’ll no longer be Fabian Steidl but Fabian Auh. 🙂 Fittingly, we’ve already merged our online shops into Auh’s Shop (Si apre in una nuova finestra).

The pronunciation of “Auh” isn’t easy to explain. “Auh” is a romanization of the Korean vowel 어, which doesn’t exist in German. A close comparison would be the “au” in the English word “August.” Here’s a link with an audio example (Si apre in una nuova finestra), haha. The name change itself isn’t in effect yet, though, and it’ll probably take a few months or years until it’s updated everywhere.

Fotos aus Wien, Budapest und Kopenhagen

Ich war auch viel unterwegs seit dem letzten Newsletter, angefangen mit Budapest im Mai. Mein letzter Budapest-Besuch war 2009, fürs Sziget-Musikfestival. Seitdem hab ich die Stadt in so guter Erinnerung behalten, dass ich unbedingt nochmal hinwollte. Im Mai haben wir’s geschafft, als eine Art vorgezogene Flitterwochen. Fazit: Ist immer noch wunderschön.

Auf dem Weg dorthin gab es außerdem einen Zwischenstopp in Wien, für die Art-Book- und Zine-Messe „Fanzineist Vienna“, inklusive eines Besuchs auf dem Prater. Und jetzt im Juli noch eine Reise nach Kopenhagen. Fotos von allen drei Stationen gibt’s im Archiv (Si apre in una nuova finestra).

EN — Photos from Vienna, Budapest and Copenhagen — I’ve been traveling a lot since the last newsletter, too, starting with Budapest in May. My last visit to Budapest was in 2009, for the Sziget music festival. I’d kept such fond memories of the city ever since that I really wanted to go back. In May we finally made it happen, as a kind of early honeymoon. Verdict: still beautiful.

On the way there, we also stopped in Vienna for the art book and zine fair “Fanzineist Vienna,” including a visit to the Prater. And now, in July, a trip to Copenhagen. Photos from all three stops are uploaded to the archive (Si apre in una nuova finestra).

Neues vom Kartenspiel „Nio“

Ich habe endlich auch ein paar Fotos von den neuesten Prototypen meines Kartenspiel-Systems gemacht, das ich in einem der letzten Newsletter angeteasert habe. Mittlerweile trägt es den Namen „nio“, angelehnt an das schwedische Wort für neun. Es besteht aus 81 doppelseitigen Karten, die Formen, Farben und andere Eigenschaften kombinieren und sich für eine Vielzahl von Spielen eignen. Spielideen, „Print-and-Play“-Dateien und alle Details findest du unter nio.fff.haus (Si apre in una nuova finestra). Es gibt auch noch einige physische Prototypen im Shop (Si apre in una nuova finestra), und ich suche Unterstützung bei der Erstellung einer Version für den Tabletop Simulator. EN — News on the card game “nio” — I finally took some photos of the latest prototypes of my card game system, which I teased in one of the last newsletters. It now goes by the name “nio,” inspired by the Swedish word for nine. It consists of 81 double-sided cards that combine shapes, colors and other properties, and work for a variety of games. Game ideas, print-and-play files and all the details can be found at nio.fff.haus (Si apre in una nuova finestra). There are also still a few physical prototypes in the shop (Si apre in una nuova finestra), and I’m looking for help building a version for Tabletop Simulator.
