STB Newsletter 2026 #1

Dear all,

A quick email just to say a Happy New Year to you all, and let you know we have kicked the year off with a new long-read essay on the life and work of the great Berlin artist Käthe Kollwitz (Si apre in una nuova finestra).

I usually end my Prenzlauer Berg tour (Si apre in una nuova finestra) at her former address on what is now Kollwitzstrasse, and it was a joy to finally visit the new home of the Käthe Kollwitz Museum (at Schloss Charlottenburg) and use that as a springboard to dive more deeply into a remarkable woman and incredibly unique artist. Her anti-war messages feel suddenly very relevant again given the remilitarisation of Germany and Europe.

Talking of tours, I have just added a new orientation or introductory tour (Si apre in una nuova finestra) to our list of offering (Si apre in una nuova finestra)s. I was actually running it on a private basis last year for CIEE (Council on International Educational Exchange) students, but decided it would work well for new visitors to the city as well as locals who might want to re-familiarise themselves with the central areas they may often avoid :)

For that reason, there are also some alternative stop-offs and not-so-obvious stories and anecdotes to go alongside the checklist of Big Sights (Brandenburger Tor, Reichstag, Holocaust Memorial, Checkpoint Charlie etc). If you are a paying member, you can of course claim a discount on any of our tours.

That’s all for now but I will be in touch with more info and updates soon…

Paul (& the STB Team)
