https://www.planetnude.co/p/greyfriars-isle-112?r=3ntv3o (Abre numa nova janela)

The episode will become available to the general public in about a week.

This past Monday

The latest Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan comic is “Pragmatic plans produced”.

Panel 1.
Jodoque: We can’t spend the night here, though.

Panel 2.
Jodoque: At the very least, we should go back to the farm and pick up our stuff.

Panel 3.
Jodoque (from off-panel): I know that means we’ll land in the thick of it, and you probably don’t feel like getting involved…

Panel 4.
Kel: Don’t worry. I won’t let the others down. not after ten years. If worst comes to worst, I’ll help out.

Panel 5.
Kel: But until then, I say let the fuckers stew. (Abre numa nova janela)
Drawn in 2010! Colored in 2013 by Aggie Janicot! Reworked with minor fixes in 2025! It is here, now.

As always, I highly recommend reading this storyline from the start (Abre numa nova janela) or going back to the very beginning of the archive (Abre numa nova janela) for an extended webcomics binge spanning almost 35 years of my life and 1232 pages.

Earlier

I’ve been playing with the new Procreate brushes some more.

A woman in a blue dress, grey jacket and glasses.
Mycelia Spoor, colored in with the Tidewater brush.

More in the $10 tier of my Patreon (Abre numa nova janela).

On one of the Discord channels that I’m in, someone mentioned that they thought Procreate was really overrated. I don’t quite agree but it is true that there are some things about it that can be improved. The person who didn’t like Procreate recommended Art Studio Pro (Abre numa nova janela) as an alternative for the iPad. I had an earlier version of that app on my first iPad, years ago, but didn’t thing it was what I needed; but since then, it’s evolved quite a bit. They also pointed out that the app was made in Poland (Abre numa nova janela) and refers to EU law including EU data protection law in its license. That sounds good to me as I try to Europeanize my tech stack. So in the next few weeks, time permitting, I will be showing more drawings like the one above that are very simple and intended for me to test Art Studio Pro’s brushes, on top of the new Procreate offering. Just… not yet, because I’ve been putting in more hours at the day job, while dealing with seasonal illness, and keeping my regular comics on schedule.

Items of Interest this week

A short section this week as I’ve been very busy with the day job and drawing.

Protesting the Suspension of a Scholar at the University of Kentucky for Statements on Palestine (Abre numa nova janela) - Committee on Academic Freedom, Informed Comment. Letter to the University of Kentucky regarding the suspension of Professor Ramsi Woodcock for his statements about Palestine.

Network Effects

I try not to get too attached to online platforms. The way I use platforms is like a sociopath uses people: I take what I can from them, but I believe they exist to sell me out eventually and I am always prepared to bail on them the moment they start making noises in that direction and/or simply stop being useful to me. Sometimes executing on an exit plan takes longer, sometimes I can do it quickly. But I’m always prepared to do it.

But I’m only human and now that I’ve made my home-for-the-time-being on Steady, I’ve started looking around to see who else may be here with me. I already knew about The Quietus (Abre numa nova janela), a music publication I used to read before it ran into serious financial trouble and disappeared off my radar for a while. Happy to be reacquainted!

In my referral links, I found Democracy Americana (Abre numa nova janela), a newsletter by Thomas Zimmer, a German historian previously employed at Georgetown University who has recently decided to quit academia, quit Substack and quit the United States (Abre numa nova janela) at this precise moment in history. I look forward to reading more from him. But maybe go a little less hard on the ‘Subscribe’ pop-ups blocking the view when reading on the web?

Sponsor

This newsletter is sponsored by… me! I don’t monetize this newsletter directly (not yet, anyway), but I do have a Patreon (Abre numa nova janela) where you can support me and get early access to comics, behind-the-scenes updates, and more, depending on your tier.

Earlier still

This week’s blast from the past is Sneaking, Wittenberg-style (Abre numa nova janela) from 2019, but also from 2008 - some of these pages have really long creation histories even though the total amount of time spent on each page was not ridiculous.

Panel 1:
Krakatoa is talking to the Plant-stealing Monk.
Krakatoa: Oh, and can you tell me where the dormitories are?Panel 2:
The Plant-stealing Monk points silently in the direction of where Krakatoa was heading already.
Krakatoa: I need to talk to-
Ah.Panel 3:
Krakatoa opens a door.
Krakatoa (thinks): Yes! Now… sneaking, Wittenberg-style.Panels 4 and 5: Krakatoa walks past the rows of beds full of sleeping monks, looking right and then left.

And the full page:

Panel 1:
Krakatoa is talking to the Plant-stealing Monk.
Krakatoa: Oh, and can you tell me where the dormitories are?

Panel 2:
The Plant-stealing Monk points silently in the direction of where Krakatoa was heading already.
Krakatoa: I need to talk to-
Ah.

Panel 3:
Krakatoa opens a door.
Krakatoa (thinks): Yes! Now… sneaking, Wittenberg-style.

Panels 4 and 5: Krakatoa walks past the rows of beds full of sleeping monks, looking right and then left. (Abre numa nova janela)
This is dark, dark stuff. Er, because there's no light source, obviously.
