TYME Collective — there can never be too much support — Interview with the bRAVEs

In Berlin, the city where many different cultures meet in one place, projects are born that might not have come together anywhere else. the bRAVEs Berlin talked to Olya & Darius of the German capital based TYME Collective (Abre numa nova janela) about its founding, the goals pursued, the newly founded label and the first fundraising compilation “On The Silver Shore (Abre numa nova janela)” with 24 different artists, including Slone, Schacke, Nastya Vogan, Koloah, Louwave & Splinter (UA), Yan Cook alias Rhomb, Egotot and many more, which was released on March 1st.

the bRAVEs: Can you tell us something about TYME – what does it stand for, who is behind it, what are its goals?

TYME: TYME was born out of a shared passion for contemporary music and visual arts. We’re a group of German, Ukrainian, and British nationals who want to emphasize the importance of ongoing intercultural exchange and the integration of displaced artists into the electronic music scene.

Our goals include organizing events that feature both Ukrainian and international artists, fostering connections between diverse audiences, and serving as a platform for electronic music, art, education, and fundraising initiatives.

the bRAVEs: You are a diverse group. How did this international cooperation come about?

TYME: The majority of our team members had the opportunity to travel to Ukraine, and some of them were impressed by the thriving electronic music culture there. However, when the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine started, many of us felt compelled to show our support for the Ukrainian community in Berlin. Our aim was to provide a platform for them to connect and perform while also raising funds to help those affected by the war. It’s worth mentioning that most of us were friends before we formed a group.

the bRAVEs: How many people are in the collective now?

TYME: We’re now 7 people and are currently looking for a new members to join our team.

the bRAVEs: Do you all have a musical background? Which of you has what experience?

TYME: While we all share a passion for electronic music, we each have different connections to it. Some of us are professional DJs, whil others would consider themselves hobbyist DJs. Additionally, some have a professional background in the music industry and did run a techno label before.

the bRAVEs: After several events in Berlin with very different artists and collaborations with, among others, CTM Vorspiel (Abre numa nova janela), Rukh (Abre numa nova janela), BRUTALISM Cologne (Abre numa nova janela) and Borshch Magazine (Abre numa nova janela), the first compilation “On The Silver Shore (Abre numa nova janela)” was released on your newly founded label with the aim to collect money for the Ukraine. Why did you decide to found a label?

TYME:

With our shared passion for electronic music, we wanted to provide a space for emerging artists from Ukraine and the world to release music that transcends boundaries.

the bRAVEs: 24 tracks – quite a lot! How did you select the artists?

TYME: We primarily contacted artists we personally know and deeply like to listen to. Our aim was to bring together a diverse lineup of Ukrainian and international talent for a unique release. Creating your first-ever label release with that many artists can be quite challenging and it took us a while until we had everything we needed, but we’re super proud and happy about the outcome.

the bRAVEs: All the profits will be split between two Ukrainian organizations. Can you tell us more about them?

https://open.spotify.com/intl-de/track/4A2KDDiSbWM0Xn12wIDl2r (Abre numa nova janela)

TYME: We chose to support two charities: Behind Blue Eyes and Kyiv Pride. Behind Blue Eyes (Abre numa nova janela) documents the impact of war on children and fulfills their dreams, while Kyiv Pride (Abre numa nova janela) aids the safety and well-being of the LGBTQ+ community in Ukraine.

the bRAVEs: Why is it still important to raise funds for Ukraine?

TYME: As long as the war persists, it remains crucial to raise awareness and funds for Ukraine. Ukrainian men continue to fight, many civilians have been forced to flee for their lives and resettle far from home, and the nation’s agriculture and economy have been severely impacted. People are still grappling with unimaginable trauma. That’s why we believe there can never be too much support.

the bRAVEs: What else can we expect from TYME in 2024?

TYME: We can only say that there will be more label releases this year. We can’t say much about new events yet, but we’ll definitely have new initiatives in 2024. For now, we’d like to thank everyone who’s been part of our unique journey so far. Stay tuned for new TYME projects.

the bRAVEs: Thank you for taking your time!
