Green sea turtle no longer endangered, Bangladesh plans to release captive elephants back into the wild

Hello dear Good News community,

I’m a huge animal lover – one of the reasons I’ve been eating a plant-based diet for five years. That’s why I’m especially happy about today’s two positive animal stories: The green sea turtle has recovered after decades of decline and has been upgraded by the IUCN from “endangered” to “least concern.” And in Bangladesh, the government plans to release the 96 remaining Asian elephants in captivity back into the wild.

The green sea turtle has recovered after decades of decline and has been upgraded on the IUCN Red List from “endangered” to “least concern.” Its global population has increased by 28% since the 1970s, thanks to conservation measures such as trade bans, protected nesting beaches, and specialized fishing deterrents. Quitting smoking protects the brain

Quitting smoking is always worth it. Researchers analyzed data from more than 9,000 people over the age of 40 and found that former smokers experience significantly slower cognitive decline than those who continue to smoke — another indication that quitting may help reduce the risk of dementia. Bangladesh plans to release captive elephants back into the wild

Bangladesh is home to the endangered Asian elephant – only 268 remain in the wild. In addition, 96 elephants live in captivity, some used for work or entertainment. The government now plans to release these captive elephants back into the wild. Source: MONGABAY
