It’s cold out, which means awards season is heating up. This past week I caught up with Sarah Polley’s deceptively simple, deeply moving Women Talking, which has been nominated for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay at the upcoming Academy Awards. Usually I couldn’t give two hoots who wins what at the Oscars, but this year I hope Polley walks away with at least one prize, if only so it means she can continue making films of the calibre of Women Talking – it’s been 10 years since her last directorial effort, which is far too long for someone of her talent.
