Film Recommendation

As eagle-eyed readers may have noticed, us highfalutin types at LWLies Towers don’t tend to worry ourselves too much about the Academy Awards. We are fine and happy that they happen, and that people are very excited about them, but at the end of the day we’re not that bothered about who wins and loses. And to be frank, the whole thing has become something of a marathon, one that we’re definitely not in shape for.

However, we will admit to have experienced a pang of joy at the news that Autumn Durald Arkapaw won an Oscar for Best Cinematography for her superlative work on Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. Two ceilings broken in one swing, with the first woman to ever win the award, and the first person of colour to do so too. It’s a tragedy we’ve had to wait so long for that to happen, but maybe that white male hegemony is one of the reasons we’re not that interested  in the first place.
