Hi everyone, an extra edition of my newsletter to thank Women in Street Italy for the invitation to show my work through their network (see Instagram).

Women in Street

Women in Street is an international photography collective focused on street photography by women. The platform showcases women photographers from different countries through curated takeovers, shared projects, and visibility initiatives. Its aim is to create exchange, representation, and a supportive network for women working in street photography worldwide.

Women in Street Italy is the Italian branch of the international Women in Street collective. It brings together women street photographers connected to Italy and highlights their work through takeovers, shared visibility, and community exchange. The initiative supports dialogue, mutual inspiration, and presence of women in the street photography scene.

Born and raised in Italy, I am still strongly connected to my home country, although I have been living abroad since 1984.

Street Photography Is About Relationships

Street photography, to me, is observant and documentary. But it is also something very simple: it soothes my soul. Without a deeper agenda. With my camera in hand, I am fully in the here and now. I enjoy discovering ordinary moments, watching how people move, wait, interact, pass by. This takeover is my way of sharing not only images, but also thoughts and experiences. For the takeover-weekend, I selected images around two themes that shape my photographic work, and perhaps resonate with yours as well.

For me, street photography is about approaching people with respect, curiosity, and mindfulness, while simultaneously observing how we behave. And, of course, incorporating my own perspective. I'm less interested in individual faces, but rather in interactions. I observe gestures and glances. Relationships speak louder than a single facial expression. Here, content is what counts, and this is an area I want to explore further in my future work.

I am grateful to Women in Street Italy for giving me the opportunity to reflect again on what I photograph, and why.

Photographing as an Inner State

I photograph differently depending on the mental state I am in. The image grows out of my inner state. My attention changes what becomes visible and therefore calm creates different images than restlessness.

On days when I am a bit restless, I enjoy distracting myself from life. Therefore, I start playing with geometry and perspectives, with light and colour. Content becomes less important.

On days when I am more focused and with peace at heart, I look for stories, for series, for something more meaningful than just lines and shadows.

Both was are part of my photographic language. Two different ways of expressing myself through the camera. Thank you, Women in Street Italy, for the invitation – and for the trust.

Hallo an alle! Hier eine Sonderausgabe meines Newsletters, um mich bei Women in Street Italy für die Einladung zu bedanken, meine Arbeiten über ihr Netzwerk zu präsentieren (siehe Instagram).

Women in Street ist ein internationales Fotokollektiv, das sich auf Streetfotografie von Frauen konzentriert. Die Plattform präsentiert Fotografinnen aus verschiedenen Ländern durch kuratierte Aktionen, gemeinsame Projekte und Sichtbarkeitsinitiativen. Ziel ist es, Austausch, Repräsentation und ein unterstützendes Netzwerk für Frauen zu schaffen, die weltweit in der Streetfotografie arbeiten. Die Initiative fördert Dialog, gegenseitige Inspiration und die Präsenz von Frauen in der Streetfotografie-Szene.

Women in Street Italy ist der italienische Ableger des internationalen Kollektivs „Women in Street“. Es bringt Streetfotografinnen mit Bezug zu Italien zusammen und rückt ihre Arbeiten durch Aktionen, gemeinsame Sichtbarkeit und Community-Austausch in den Fokus.

Ich bin in Italien geboren und aufgewachsen und fühle mich meinem Heimatland nach wie vor sehr verbunden, obwohl ich seit 1984 im Ausland lebe.

Straßenfotografie – Beziehungen

Straßenfotografie ist für mich beobachtend und dokumentarisch. Aber sie ist auch etwas ganz Einfaches: Sie beruhigt meine Seele. Ohne tieferen Sinn. Mit meiner Kamera in der Hand bin ich ganz im Hier und Jetzt. Ich genieße es, alltägliche Momente zu entdecken, zu beobachten, wie sich Menschen bewegen, warten, miteinander interagieren, vorbeigehen.

Für das Aktionswochenende habe ich Bilder zu zwei Themen ausgewählt, die meine fotografische Arbeit prägen und vielleicht auch eure ansprechen.

Für mich geht es in der Straßenfotografie darum, Menschen mit Respekt, Neugier und Achtsamkeit zu begegnen und gleichzeitig zu beobachten, wie wir so sind. Und natürlich dabei meine eigene Perspektive einzubringen. Mich interessieren nicht einzelne Gesichter, sondern Interaktionen. Ich beobachte Gesten und Blicke. Beziehungen sagen mehr als ein einzelner Gesichtsausdruck. Hier zählt der Inhalt, und diese Richtung möchte ich in meiner künftigen Arbeit noch weiter vertiefen.

Ich bin Women in Street Italy dankbar für die Gelegenheit, erneut über meine Fotografie und deren Bedeutung nachzudenken.

Fotografieren als Ausdruck meines inneren Zustands

Ich fotografiere aus meinem jeweiligen Gemütszustand heraus. Meine Aufmerksamkeit beeinflusst, was sichtbar wird, und so erzeugt Ruhe andere Bilder als Unruhe.

An Tagen, an denen ich etwas unruhig bin, genieße ich es, mich vom Alltag abzulenken. Dann beginne ich, mit Geometrie und Perspektiven, mit Licht und Farbe zu experimentieren. Der Inhalt tritt in den Hintergrund.

An Tagen, an denen ich konzentrierter bin und inneren Frieden spüre, suche ich nach Geschichten, nach Serien, nach etwas Bedeutungsvollerem als bloßen Linien und Schatten.

Beides ist Teil meiner fotografischen Sprache. Zwei unterschiedliche Wege, mich durch die Kamera auszudrücken. Vielen Dank, Women in Street Italy, für die Einladung und das Vertrauen.
