Happy Easter… and a walk in the snow and rain

This year, winter in Europe was very cold and snowy for weeks. Cities like Hamburg and Berlin were covered in snow for several weeks, which is rare. In some places in the mountains, it didn't snow at all. And in others, it snowed heavily. Heavy rains just destroyed bridges and villages in Southern Italy, the land of the sun… oh well.

I love street photography, but when conditions are this extreme, I also enjoy getting creative in nature. Here are a few pictures for all those who still haven't had enough of the snow. First from the city of Hamburg, then from nature at the Arlberg.

The other way of enjoying the mountains: I spent a few days at the Austrian Arlberg and had a few nice long walks all alone in winter wonderland. But I wanted creative photos, not mainstream. So I hit my (waterproof!) camera with snow and water and I breathed on the lense, then the protective lens fogged up on the inside.

Don't worry, my camera is perfectly sealed and it's fine, but it was wonderful for creative play. And I like the results, the opposite of the postcard-perfect pictures we'd usually take under a blue sky and with such a spectacular backdrop... it was a lot of creative fun.

And later there also was a lot of rain! But hey, alone or in a group, let’s still grab the camera and go outside anyway… it's always worth it somehow.

Frohe Ostern… und ein Spaziergang im Schnee und Regen

Dieses Jahr war der Winter in Europa wochenlang sehr kalt und schneereich. Städte wie Hamburg und Berlin waren wochenlang schneebedeckt, was ungewöhnlich ist. In manchen Bergregionen schneite es gar nicht und anderswo schneite es heftig. Starkregen zerstörte gerade noch Brücken und Dörfer in Süditalien, dem Land der Sonne… na ja.

Ich liebe Straßenfotografie, aber bei solch extremen Bedingungen genieße ich es auch, in der Natur kreativ zu werden. Hier sind ein paar Bilder für alle, die noch nicht genug vom Schnee haben.

Die andere Art, die Berge zu genießen: Ich habe ein paar schöne Tage am österreichischen Arlberg verbracht und bin dort ganz allein durch die winterliche Landschaft gewandert. Ich wollte kreative Fotos machen, keine Mainstream-Bilder. Also habe ich meine (wasserdichte!) Kamera mit Schnee und Wasser bespritzt, ich habe auf die Linse gehaucht und die Schutzlinse beschlagen lassen.

Keine Sorge, meine Kamera ist perfekt abgedichtet und alles ist in Ordnung, aber es war toll, damit kreativ zu experimentieren. Und mir gefallen die Ergebnisse – das genaue Gegenteil der Postkartenfotos, die man sonst unter blauem Himmel und vor so einer spektakulären Kulisse macht. Und es hat richtig Spaß gemacht.

Und später hat es dann auch noch heftig geregnet! Aber hey, ob allein oder in der Gruppe, schnappt euch trotzdem die Kamera und geht raus … es lohnt sich immer irgendwie.
