Fingolfin’s Findings LXXIII: Merton College’s memories of J.R.R. Tolkien

I still have not written about the lovely interaction I had with with Giuseppe Pezzini (Opens in a new window) of Corpus Christi College in Oxford who - at very short notice - made two tickets available for me and Susi so we could see the exhibition on Tolkien (Opens in a new window) in 2023.

Much more has grown out of this since then (Opens in a new window), the ongoing talks’ series organised by Pezzini etc. has brought some amazing opportunities for scholarship and beyond.

Anywayn, Tim Bolton (Opens in a new window) was so kind as to remind me that Merton has put up the information they had promised to put together at a later time with their webseite.

My favourite anecdote?

Tolkien changed the letters on the students’ pegboard at Merton Street where he lived for fun - a gentleman called GOLL turned into LOGO (Opens in a new window).
