In Lienz, we find it remarkable how many small independent shops can be found in the centre, which consists mainly of pedestrian zones and streets with little traffic. The centuries-old architecture, culinary traditions and the often-mentioned sunny weather tempted us to take a short December day trip by train to Lienz.
(Si apre in una nuova finestra)Lienz in Osttirol (East Tyrol) - the eastern part of Tyrol - with its unique location in between the Austrian regions of Salzburg (Salzburg) and Kärnten (Carinthia) - not directly connected to Nordtirol (North Tyrol) within Austria, as the bordering region Südtirol (South Tyrol) is part of the Italian region Trentino-Südtirol (Trentino-Alto Adige).
An interesting curiosity is that East Tyrol postal codes start with a 9 (9900 Lienz) - similar to Carinthian postal codes (9020 Klagenfurt am Wörthersee), while North Tyrol uses postal codes starting with a 6 (6020 Innsbruck).
Via rail, Lienz is well connected to long distance trains in direction of Wien (Vienna), to the Carinthian S-Bahn regional train system, but also via trains to and from Trentino-Südtirol (Trentino-Alto Adige) in Italy. (Si apre in una nuova finestra)📍🌐 A possible Route to explore - Lienz .AT
