We are all mind readers. That person is angry. That person is sad. That person is arrogant.
We also do this with animals: This donkey is greedy. That donkey is judgmental.
And sometimes, we do this to entire groups of people. Germans sound … . The French sound …. . Italians sound … .
We know that these are clichés, and that we might be completely wrong when we are “reading” someone’s tone of voice. And still – we can’t help ourselves.
No matter whether your English loves interpreting people’s tone of voice, or whether it just shrugs and says “I am tone deaf, sorry”: This episode is for you.
This episode is inspired by Whimsey the donkey (Abre numa nova janela). Thank you, Whimsey. You are the best mini donkey in the world.
PS: If you are a German native speaker, you have probably struggled with the difference between the words “pathetic” and “melodramatic”. This is the episode for you!
