A recommendation: Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die

“I traveled here today to tell you that things do not go well for you in the future…” Cholula power!! Hot sauce can actually save the world. One of 2026’s must see new films is this sci-fi adventure comedy called Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die from filmmaker Gore Verbinski. It’s his first film in nearly a decade (he last made A Cure for Wellness in 2016) and he goes all-out this time with an original story about a bonkers guy from the future coming back to put together a ragtag group of heroes to save the future (Si apre in una nuova finestra). And most importantly - it’s about how Artificial Intelligence is dangerous and stupid and pointless and will ruin everything. And yes, this is the point, it’s not trying to be tongue-in-cheek about it anymore. We need more films (sci-fi or not) that stop playing into the BS of “but maybe it’s a useful tool for us” and instead lean fully into the “this is bleak and bad and we need to stop it before it gets that bad” criticism of AI. Just like how things used to be with both of James Cameron’s Terminator movies, for example. Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die is not just critical about today’s world, it’s a crazy fun “Black Mirror”-esque adventure comedy about a team of wacky people getting caught up in an extra wacky plot to save the world. It’s ridiculous and weird and audacious and bold and so much fun. And considering it’s rare nowadays to actually watch an entirely original, never-seen-this-before movie from Hollywood, this is a must see just because it is something new and clever that captures the zeitgeist (yes, AI really is bad for us) and delivers satisfying cinematic entertainment. Catch it on the big screen while you can.

Sam Rockwell in Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die (Si apre in una nuova finestra)
Sam Rockwell stars in Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die

A "Man From the Future" arrives at a diner in Los Angeles where he must recruit the precise combination of disgruntled patrons to join him on a one-night quest to save the world from the terminal threat of a rogue artificial intelligence. The screenplay is written by Matthew Robinson (also known for writing Love and Monsters (Si apre in una nuova finestra) a few years ago). Sam Rockwell stars as Future Man (he’s always brilliant), wearing a ridiculous “futuristic” outfit who appears in Norms diner trying to put together a group of heroes. Eventually we learn he’s been doing this for a while and his button allows him to travel back in time and restart things when it doesn’t work out. The rest of the ensemble cast includes: Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, Zazie Beetz, Asim Chaudhry, and Juno Temple. They all make-up the group of people who eventually follow him on this adventure, telling their dystopian backstories as they make their way towards the home where the kid creating the ultimate AI can be found. The rest of it is even hard to explain in words. Because it’s really all about having fun watching this sci-fi story play out and whether or not Sam Rockwell can actually pull it off. What I love the most about this movie is how brash and bold it is in calling out all the horrible modern tech we’re addicted to, all the human idiocy & complacency, and all the problems within society that we’re too afraid to deal with. Because movies are supposed to be the kind of clever art that challenges us to think about things and wake us up from the delusions we’re lost in. And at least this one makes it extra fun to watch as Sam Rockwell and his comrades run around town and fight AI tech and change our future.
