Marine protection milestone: Ten percent of the oceans officially protected
More than 10% of the oceans are already protected, according to the WDPA—a major milestone. To reach the "30 by 30" goal (30% by 2030), an area the size of the Indian Ocean must now be secured in record time, while also improving the quality of protection. Source: MONGABAY

Etsy bans the sale of fur products
Etsy has updated its policies: starting in August 2026, the online marketplace will no longer allow the sale of fur products. However, other animal-derived products, such as leather, are not affected by the ban. The change followed several weeks of protests by activists. Source: FASHION UNITED

The European bison is making a comeback
One hundred years ago, the European bison was nearly extinct—but today, large herds are living once again in Great Britain, Romania, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Belarus, and Lithuania. Company turns urine into fertilizer—and is now planning a forest
The Bristol-based startup NPK Recovery produces plant fertilizer from urine. This is collected from portable toilets used at festivals and other events. Following initial successful projects, a forest is now being planned in collaboration with the British Forestry Commission. Source: BRISTOL24/7

Free travel across Europe: EU gives away travel passes to 40,000 young people
The EU is launching another round of its "DiscoverEU" initiative. With the free travel pass, more than 40,000 young people can travel across Europe by train for one month at no cost. 18-year-old Europeans can apply through the EU Commission until April 22. Source: EURONEWS
