Two pieces of great news for conservation in Greece: First, the former prison island of Gyaros has turned into a paradise for endangered monk seals. And thanks to the "Typhoon Project," the beaches of Mykonos, Keros, and neighboring islands are cleaner than ever.

Greece's beaches are getting cleaner
Greece’s "Typhoon Project" reports a breakthrough after seven years in the fight against beach litter. On popular vacation islands like Mykonos and Syros, pollution is noticeably decreasing thanks to regular cleanups. Laser detects methanol in bottles
Illegally produced liquor can contain methanol—which is potentially life-threatening for humans. Researchers are working on a laser technology that detects methanol inside sealed bottles, even through colored glass. Researchers find hidden drainage channel in the eye
A Canadian research team has discovered a previously unknown drainage system in the eye. The newly found channel transports fluid and harmful waste products directly into the lymphatic system. Water scarcity: Chile tests fog nets
In Chile’s extremely arid Atacama Desert, local initiatives use large net structures to harvest thousands of liters of usable water daily directly from coastal fog. Researchers develop flood warning systems for homes
A new flood warning device aims to alert people early to rising water. The low-tech device is installed outdoors and triggers an alarm upon contact with water.
