BEYOND THE SHINE
Panel Talk

Date: 7.11.2025
Event time: 18:30–21:30
Location: Oscam Museum, Bijlmerplein 110, 1102 DB Amsterdam
Grillz are more than gold, Clothing are more than garments. They are history worn on the body. Rooted in hip-hop and Afro-diasporic culture, grillz speak of pride, resistance, and belonging. They tell stories of where we come from and how we choose to shine in spaces that were not built for us.
This evening invites reflection and dialogue: How do we wear our culture? How does what we create become education for ourselves, for our communities, and for those who come after us?
Moderator: Kalkidan Hoex; Speakers: Patricia Nganga Mokosi, Latoya Molly, Daniel Declercq

INHERITANCE
Symposium

Date: 8.11.2025
Time: 13:00-17:00
Venue: If I Can’t Dance, I Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution, WG-Plein 881, 1054 SM Amsterdam
OBSESSED! festival invites you to an intimate symposium hosted and at If I Can’t Dance by isabel wang pontoppidan. Exploring an expanded notion of inheritance, this symposium will provide three unique perspectives on jewellery as material, spiritual and psychological manifestations.
This event emerges from the symbolic potential of jewellery: jewellery as materialisations of abstract ideas of value, status, culture, faith and family. Thinking through jewellery, the programme interrogates practices and ideologies that have trickled down through time to make up our historical present.

TERET TERET
Event

Date: 9.11.2025
Time: 18:00–20:30
Location: Bar Bario, Bilderdijkstraat 186, 1053 LD Amsterdam
Teret Teret is an Ethiopian storytelling tradition where the storyteller and listener journey together into another world. This programme, developed by artist and curator Kalkidan Hoex (TheNEWtribe) in collaboration with Current Obsession and Rambler Studios, explores themes of identity, home, and personal growth. Glow Up can signify more than outward transformation, it can also reflect an inner movement toward community, culture, identity, social awareness, self-knowledge, and strength. How can jewellery and other media make our inner worlds visible to others? And why does this matter?
