Health Updates (Part 2)

I really didn’t want to write another update regarding my health. I was supposed to publish a list of my top picks for last week’s Bandcamp Friday with links to my favourite albums so you, too, could enjoy and maybe even support other indie artists out there. Yet here we are.

Just before dinner last Friday (March 6), I suffered a second seizure while setting the table. I hit the floor face first and ended up with a black eye, minor head trauma, an injured left shoulder, and injuries along my right arm from where I was held down for my own safety during the episode. I awoke in the back of an ambulance again, and was so out of it that I had forgotten I had already experienced another seizure just a few weeks earlier.

A selfie showcasing the bruising around the left half of my left eye. My hair is a mess and my face covered in stubble. I’m wearing a purple T-shirt and have my face half-turned to the camera.

This time around I ended up hospitalized for a day and a half and underwent an MRI alongside several other tests. I see a neurologist next week and have begun taking Keppra to prevent any further incidents. I also learned that I have Stage 2 kidney disease though that is not the reason for the seizures (and the medication I take for my blood pressure also treats this). Thanks, genetics!

The past week has been spent largely avoiding stressors, resting, and figuring out what to do next. I’m concerned about getting back into live performances if these are going to be a new feature to consider when taking the stage. Just what my existing anxiety needs.

Here’s hoping that such episodes are behind me and that I can get back to regular work and updates that don’t involve any further health scares. It’s been far too long since I’ve blogged regularly or had a nice, productive day writing and recording in Ableton Live. Between my own health issues, the horrible news that is constantly drowning the world and Odin knows what else, we could all use some normalcy without wars and genocide on top of it all.
