Milla Reitan/Nikolaj Majorov: Growing into their boots

Milla Ruud Reitan/Nikolaj Majorov of Sweden are preparing for their third season as an ice dance couple. The popular young team is preparing for the Olympic Qualifying Competition in Beijing. They discuss their new programs, their growth and being a couple off the ice. We met Milla and Nikolaj in Oberstdorf following a training session.

How have you been since Worlds?

Nikolaj: It's been a bit tough, I think we're not going to lie.

Milla: It’s been different than the other years but we're doing well.  We just had some difficult times with Oberstdorf being closed for so long. So after Worlds we took a week or two off and we started on the ice again in Norway and in Sweden. We spent a lot of time with family so that was nice.

Did you have to train by yourself?

Milla: We trained by ourselves, yes. Usually in May we go back to Oberstdorf but now it didn't open until the beginning of June and so we trained the whole May alone. I think that was the most like difficult thing for us. Training alone is not a problem, we can figure things out. We are very interested and we always try to figure out things by ourselves before asking our coach for help, so that was not a problem. But we really missed the coach and the feedback and everybody on the ice.
