Special Edition: VIEWdigital e-newsletter for Indie News Week

INDIE NEWS WEEK (Si apre in una nuova finestra)

If you think that Big Tech greed and corporate takeovers are strangling local media, then support Indie News Week (Si apre in una nuova finestra). It is a week-long campaign celebrating everything that makes indie media essential, providing an opportunity for communities to get to know the independent media professionals who serve them by providing ethical, verifiable and regulated factual stories.

NEWRY SCREENING

This year VIEWdigital (Si apre in una nuova finestra) and Newry.ie (Si apre in una nuova finestra) are working together to bring a screening and panel discussion to The Bookshelf in Newry on Thursday June 18 to discuss migrant women’s health.

‘Migrant Women Seen & Heard’ in Indie News Week spotlights an important social issue and is supported by the Public Interest News Foundation (Si apre in una nuova finestra), Community Development & Heath Network (CDHN) (Si apre in una nuova finestra) and the Belfast & District branch of the National Union of Journalists (Si apre in una nuova finestra)(NUJ).

Lawyer Sarah Henry, presenter of the Activist Lawyer podcast, will chair a panel discussion featuring Joanne Vance, CDHN, Eileen Chan-Hu, CRAIC NI, and Aisha Bakkar, one of the women featured in the short film produced by Marisa Comeau-Kerege for VIEWdigital and presented by Abeer Musawaei, as part of a Future Screens NI supported project.

VIEWdigital are pleased to work with independent media outlet Newry.ie (Si apre in una nuova finestra) to organise this event. Columba O’Hare, editor said:

"Independent news outlets such as VIEWdigital and Newry.ie (Si apre in una nuova finestra) are the perfect place to highlight challenges within our community and give people a voice. The difficulties migrant women experience very often go unheard, so we are delighted to be involved in facilitating the conversation.”

FREE tickets are available via Eventbrite (Si apre in una nuova finestra). Sign up as there is limited capacity at this event.

LAUNCH OF LATEST EDITION OF VIEW MAGAZINE

VIEWdigital is delighted to work with community stalwart Mary McManus, who is the guest editor of the latest edition of VIEW magazine, which will be launched in Belfast on June 24.

Mary, the Regional Manager of Living Wage NI (Si apre in una nuova finestra) said: “We hope the magazine will raise awareness of the real Living Wage, deepen understanding, encourage more employers to accredit, and support the continued growth of the real Living Wage movement in Northern Ireland.”

The launch is at Clifton House, in North Queen Street, Belfast from 11am and will be followed by lunch and networking. If you would like to attend, please register here (Si apre in una nuova finestra).
