How often do I see women judging and criticizing each other instead of supporting one another? After all, we’re all in the same boat, right? That’s why I’m especially excited when it comes to women’s health – a topic that is still far too rarely researched and taken seriously. US researchers have, for the first time, successfully identified and eliminated so-called “dormant” cells in breast cancer. These cells often trigger relapses. With medication, the cells disappeared in nearly all 51 patients, and three years later, over 90% remained cancer-free. Source: SCITECHDAILY

Colombia: Women receive parts of Escobar’s land for housing and farming projects
On Pablo Escobar’s former estate, women are now set to create new opportunities: Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro plans to transfer parts of Hacienda Nápoles to a women’s organization. The area will host agricultural projects and housing for those affected by the decades-long civil war. Source: FRANCE24

Stem cell research: Skin cells transformed into egg cells
US researchers have achieved a medical breakthrough: they transformed skin cells into fertilizable eggs. To do this, they inserted the nucleus of a skin cell into an enucleated egg and halved the chromosome set. This technique could offer hope in the future for infertile individuals and same-sex couples. Source: THE GUARDIAN

Switzerland: Zurich votes in favor of 365-franc public transport ticket
Zurich embraces affordable public transport: 63 percent of citizens voted in favor of the 365-franc ticket. This means a full year of buses and trains in the city would cost the same as 14 day passes for all zones today. The initiative was inspired by Vienna, where a similar annual pass proved successful. Flu: Rapid test now available as chewable
A chewing gum as a flu test: Researchers at the University of Würzburg have developed a method that releases a specific taste when an infection is present. This allows the flu to be detected within minutes, without a lab. The gum is not yet available on the market. Source: TECHNOLOGY NETWORKS

Made in Malawi: Furniture from locally sourced wood
To counter cheap imports from China, Lefunati Tambala founded LeHome – a workshop for high-quality furniture in Malawi, East Africa. The special thing: the furniture is made from local wood and aims to raise awareness for locally produced goods. Source: DW
