Radha's love and selfless devotion (VK 13.2)

Vilāpa-kusumāñjali, Verse 13, Part 2 | Pratibhā Goswami

Verse:

»O my Goddess! When You go out to meet Kṛṣṇa in the moonlit night, Your eyes fearfully move in all directions, like bumblebees turning the whole forest into blue lotus petal-interiors. Is this person not to be seen by these eyes?«

Bhakti-yoga is the gradual journey from devotion mixed with personal desires to pure, selfless love, where the devotee’s only satisfaction lies in Radha's and Kṛṣṇa’s joy. True liberation of the heart comes when, seeing Radha and Kṛṣṇa smile, the devotee feels completely fulfilled.

This is not so difficult. Consider this simple example: Selfless devotion (niṣkāma-bhakti) is demonstrated when you give your guru an apple as a gift and you are pleased when he is happy.

00:00 Śrī Rādhā sets out for her moonlit meeting with Kṛṣṇa, filled with anxiety. Tulasi Mañjarī consoles and protects her Swāminī, showing the sweetness of mādhurya-bhakti in Vraja, where the Supreme Goddess lovingly behaves like a simple village girl, allowing her maidservants to serve her intimately. If the Lord always protects His devotees, why is Rādhā still full of worries when going to meet Kṛṣṇa? Her love remains secret, more intimate and pleasing than that of Rukmiṇī or Sītā, intensifying the rasa of their relationship.

07:10–11:02 The story of Surdās protecting baby Kṛṣṇa from a mad elephant.

13:30–20:50 The meeting of Rukmiṇī and Satyabhāmā with Rādhā, where they offer her hot milk to drink.

30:36 Tulasi’s tender promise: “When I place Your hand into Kṛṣṇa’s hand, I will demand a vow from Him – that He will never again turn to Candrāvalī or any other gopī, but remain faithful only to You, my Swāminī.”

34:44 Start of open discussion.

39:27–42:40 The Dāmodara-līlā: Mother Yaśodā binds little Kṛṣṇa to the mortar after His butter stealing. The all-powerful Lord trembles genuinely at her stick, though He is the One who creates and destroys countless universes with a glance.

45:02–51:12 Question and answer: What is niṣkāma-bhakti (devotion free from desire)?
