STB Newsletter 2026 #3

Dear all,

A quick note to let you know about two recent pieces we published this month, just in case you missed them.

The first was an impressive bit of detective work by On The Front Tours (Opens in a new window) historian and guide Steven Richards, which looks at the events of the Battle of Berlin (Opens in a new window) from the hyperlocal perspective of a square in Neukölln. You can find that here (Opens in a new window).

The second is a piece I’ve been meaning to write for years, about the Ernst Thälmann Park (Opens in a new window)in Prenzlauer Berg. It’s one of my local parks and I have always been impressed and intrigued by its complicated history—it was built on a former gasworks site by the GDR—and especially the fascinating story of the former Communist Party leader it’s named after.

As mentioned in the last newsletter, I have also developed some more guided walks. Alongside the long-running Prenzlauer Berg tour and Marcel’s Literary Guide to West Berlin, we now have an Introduction to Berlin tour for newcomers to the city, and neighbourhood strolls through Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg.

You can find more info on all of those on our tours page (Opens in a new window).

Reminder: I’m happy to offer discounts and free Mauerweg books, while they last, to paying subscribers.

Many thanks, as always, for your precious support and time.

Paul
