Picks of the week + breaking news: Agenda has a new home!

Agenda Edition #31 / 19.08-24.08.2025 / Current mood: Will you join me?
Hi, and welcome back to agenda – got plans?, a newsletter featuring a curated selection of art, design, and fashion events in Berlin. I’m Kate, a freelance journalist, Berlin local, and art lover. I hope this newsletter makes it a bit easier for you to navigate everything this city has to offer.
This week’s edition marks a fresh start: it’s the first newsletter after an unintended six-month break, and also the very first one I’m sharing on Substack!
What does that mean for you?
If you’d like to keep receiving my newsletter, please make sure to subscribe again to agenda here (Öffnet in neuem Fenster). I can’t add everyone automatically, so this step is important. Once you’ve subscribed, new editions will land straight in your inbox. Easy, right?
Here’s a sneak peek at my weekly picks:
#1 Free Open Air at Kindl
On Wednesday, Kindl shows an open-air film programme exploring human relationships. The four selected films address themes of friendship, love, and longing, as well as disappointment and hatred. Sounds like a solid plan for a Wednesday night, no? If you want to meet a friend for dinner beforehand, I’d recommend La Bologninafor pasta – or, as a quicker and more affordable option, sushi at Tabibito (both within a 15-minute walk from Kindl!).
Wednesday, 20.8., 8:30 pm

#2 Exhibition Opening “Female Gaze” at Schinkel Pavillon
Besides the name (which sounds a bit overused by now), I’m really looking forward to this exhibition at Schinkel, which brings together an international line-up of choreographers and artists like Cecilia Bengolea, nasa4nasa, La Ribot, Göksu Kunak, Lenio Kaklea, Catol Teixeira, and Ruth Childs with Cécile Bouffard.
The exhibition mixes performance, video, sound, and sculpture – some works are shown for the first time in Germany – and asks big questions: How do we look at bodies? How does power travel through gestures? How do stereotypes and the “male gaze” shape what we see? And maybe most interesting: how does the female gaze shift over time, depending on who’s watching? Performances run 22–24 August, the exhibition and screenings continue until 31 August.
Friday, 22.08, 7 pm

#3 Sunday Getaway: Art Biesenthal
Imagine planning a beautiful getaway on your birthday, only to end up in bed with a fever. That was my last Sunday, and I was not amused. I hope to make up for it next week with a bike tour to Wehrmühle for Art Biesenthal. It’s a weekend art program featuring performance, dance, sound, and workshops, running until August 31 — so this is basically my last chance, as I’ll be doing a flea market the following weekend (we’re still looking for a third person to join, dm me if you’re interested!).
Back to Art Biesenthal: it’s quite a journey. I figured the easiest way is to take the S-Bahn to Bernau and then bike the last 40 minutes, which Google Maps promises will be through beautiful greenery. The setting itself is part of the experience: an old mill in the Brandenburg countryside, where contemporary art meets nature in a very relaxed, festival-like atmosphere.
Have you been there before? I’d love to hear your experience!
Saturday and Sunday, 1pm-7pm
