Arrival in London

Noticing that everywhere sells ‘non-foods’ – nutrient-free, calorie dense, loaded with chemicals. Corner shops and supermarkets are heaving with chocolate bars, crisps, meaty, cheesy sandwiches, a rainbow variety of soda drinks. Vending machines loaded with brightly coloured packets promising artificial flavours. Cafes try to entice us with posters of enormous milky frappes – adorned with a snowy peak of whipped cream and caramel syrup, whilst dull, beige sausage baps sit inside glass cabinets. No wonder we have a catastrophic global health problem. No wonder people end up in intensive care – out cold with a tube through their throat, 10 stone overweight, lungs filled with fluid, legs dark and blotchy with diabetic ulcers. Why is anyone surprised? We have created a culture that is insidiously killing us.

‘This is a problem that human beings were never meant to solve.’  I feel like I am constantly observing, in a state of complete bewilderment.
