A recommendation: Project Hail Mary is One of This Year’s Best

Amaze. Amaze. Amaze. One of the best movies of 2026 is already playing in theaters setting box office records. Project Hail Mary is modern sci-fi storytelling at its best. I’ve seen it twice on the big screen so far and it’s a truly breathtaking, wholesome, uplifting experience no matter how many times I watch it. Among the many brilliant aspects that make this movie unforgettable, it’s a movie built on real SCIENCE, built on the idea that actual scientific calculations and engineering and critical thinking are what actually makes a difference. Science is what makes the world go ‘round and science is what will help us save the world when things aren’t going ‘round anymore. It’s real emotionally vibrant cinematic storytelling - beautifully captured, perfectly shot, and exciting in so many ways. Hopeful sci-fi cinema at its grandest. As a lifelong sci-fi geek I was getting chills every 20 minutes during all 2 & 1/2 hours of this movie – I haven't felt this particular spine-tingling, space journey bliss since Arrival in 2016. Project Hail Mary unquestionably instantly joins the ranks of Interstellar, Contact, Apollo 13, Gravity, and The Martian as an all-timer space cinema masterpiece – already beloved by audiences worldwide. I rave more in my full review (Si apre in una nuova finestra) about how much this movie means to me and how it’s everything sci-fi cinema should be. Ryan Gosling is hilarious and handles this role immaculately, balanced out by his German counterpart Sandra Hüller down on Earth, and his buddy Rocky (voiced by James Ortiz) at Tau Ceti. This is a must watch movie on the big screen anytime you have the chance to see it.

Project Hail Mary (Si apre in una nuova finestra)
Project Hail Mary is a must watch

Middle school science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship - light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. As his memory returns, he begins to uncover his mission aboard the Hail Mary to another nearby sun called Tau Ceti: to solve the riddle of the mysterious substance that is causing the sun to die out. He must call on his scientific knowledge and unorthodox ideas to save everything on Earth from extinction... but an unexpected friendship means he may not have to do it alone. Project Hail Mary is directed by the acclaimed filmmaking duo Phil Lord & Chris Miller (known as Lord & Miller) - directors of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 & 22 Jump Street, and The Lego Movie previously. The screenplay is written by Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods, Bad Times at the El Royale) adapted from the bestselling book of the same name (Si apre in una nuova finestra) written by sci-fi author Andy Weir (also known for The Martian). It’s the dream team - everyone involved in this is passionate about space and cinematic storytelling and hopeful tales about saving the world. And it all comes together ever so perfectly. Even though it's a long movie it's such a satisfying journey all the way to the end. Sit back, relax, forget about the rest of the world for 2 & ½ hours. But don’t forget that we can save the world, too. We can solve problems, we can deal with any obstacles that get in our way. It just takes a bit of ingenuity, a bit of friendship, and a bit of out-of-the-box thinking to conquer anything & everything. I love this movie through and through and feel moved by its depiction of friendship among the stars. Grace Rocky save cinema. Grace Rocky save everyone.
