Lake Garda

20/04/22

Notes from a day spent travelling across Lake Garda

Boat across lake from Peschiera to Gardone, head heavy aching with fatigue. Sleep deprived yet somewhat centred. Sitting alone on a slow boat across Lake Garda, dreaming as I stare out at the blue grey ripples, which smooth out into endless silver. The soft, green, tree-coated mountains are topped with light grey cloud.

Sitting by the lake in the evening, eating lentils, rice, tofu and  fruit. My ears only hear the soft, delicate lapping against the pebbly shore. It is pleasant, gentle – a song with no rhythm. Gazing across the lake, it is a warm dusk, and the stretch of dark blue mountain is lined at its base with the glow of thousands of orange lights.
