Do we need female networks in photography?

Yes, I think so. Not against men, but for women. Photography thrives on exchange, diversity, and visibility. And we women are not just behind the camera; we should also be just as visible as our male colleagues.

In May, I already wrote about the topic of women. It was about whether we see things "differently."

This time, I am thinking about how important support is. We women can give each other that. Because visibility does not come by itself. The numbers speak for themselves: Although female photographers take just as many photographs, they are severely underrepresented in agencies, podcasts, galleries, and on stages. There are many reasons for this, from societal role models to simple insecurity about whether their own image is "good enough."

And that is why it is good when women support each other. For example, in conversations, joint projects, and in collectives.

#She_Shoots_Leica collective

The #She_Shoots_Leica collective was founded in 2024 by Antje Huck and Anika Vehring. We now number over twenty Leica photographers from different countries. We are united by our love of photography and our desire for creative diversity and visibility.

The first zine is out, and the first joint exhibitions and appearances are underway, for example at the Leica Store Experience Days in Nuremberg.

Brauchen wir Frauennetzwerke in der Fotografie?

Ich finde: Ja. Nicht gegen Männer aber für die Frauen. Fotografie lebt von Austausch, Vielfalt, Sichtbarkeit. Und wir Frauen stehen nicht nur hinter der Kamera, sondern wir sollten auch genauso sichtbar sein.

Im Mai schrieb ich bereits über das Thema Frauen. Es ging darum, ob wir „anders“ sehen.

Diesmal denke ich darüber nach, wie wichtig Unterstützung ist. Die können wir Frauen uns gegenseitig geben. Denn Sichtbarkeit kommt nicht von allein. Die Zahlen sprechen eine klare Sprache: Obwohl Fotografinnen genauso viel fotografieren und gestalten, sind sie in Agenturen, Podcasts, Galerien und auf Bühnen stark unterrepräsentiert. Das hat viele Gründe, von gesellschaftlichen Rollenbildern bis zur schlichten Unsicherheit, ob das eigene Bild „gut genug“ ist.

Und deshalb tut es gut, wenn Frauen sich gegenseitig den Rücken stärken. Zum Beispiel in Gesprächen, gemeinsamen Projekten und in Kollektiven.

#She_Shoots_Leica Kollektiv

Das Kollektiv #She_Shoots_Leica wurde 2024 von Antje Huck und Anika Vehring gegründet. Inzwischen sind wir über zwanzig Leica-Fotografinnen aus verschiedenen Ländern. Uns verbindet die Liebe zur Fotografie und der Wunsch nach kreativer Vielfalt und Sichtbarkeit.

Das erste Zine ist da, die ersten gemeinsamen Ausstellungen und Auftritte laufen, zum Beispiel auf den Leica-Store-Erlebnistagen in Nürnberg.
